I have a regular gunshop that I frequent which buys
parts from a municipality on a trade in deal. Generally these are guns that are taken in, confiscated, suicides etc.
They get the whole gun minus the frames which, sadly, are destroyed. They get alot of low end cheaply made stuff usually.
I asked them if they had any 1911 parts, and what do you know, they did! As far as I can tell this gun is all GI parts,
mostly WWII vintage. The barrel was a chrome plated Colt, probably a GI issue replacement. This was the first
1911 that I built from parts. It was alittle spooky but the parts were all worn pretty well and the gun runs like a
sewing machine.

Here are a few pictures in different light so that you can see how the flat
blue Essex frame sort of matches. It is close. I have since changed the grip safety out because the one pictured
is actually a 1911 non-A1 (WWI era). The gun is reliable and fun to shoot. Kind of gives me a feeling of yesteryear
even though the sites are cute but barely usable. Plus, it was about a third the price of an all WWII
gun.
